Miel de Moorea
Light and golden, mild and mellow, distinctly tropical — an everyday honey with an un-everyday origin.
From the mountains above Paopao Bay, where local beekeepers gather a light, golden honey from the island's abundant Falcata trees and high mountain flowers. Moorea's environment — largely free of industrial agriculture — lets producers follow organic standards naturally, with traditional know-how.
Why it's rare: French Polynesia banned honey imports in 2011 — not to sell more honey, but to protect its bees. These islands hold some of the last varroa-free colonies on Earth, and the entire territory harvests only about 200 tons a year. Every jar is single-island, raw, and independently lab-tested.
How to enjoy it: Lovely on toast, stirred into tea, or spooned over fresh fruit.
